Christmas 2015: Bengaluru gets a 50 feet tall statue of Christ

To make this Christmas season even more special, a 50 feet tall statue of Christ the Redeemer has been installed  by Fun World in J C Nagar. 

Speaking to iamin , Sunny Sabharwal, an artist, said that the management of Fun World spent Rs 45 lakh for this statue – a first-of-its-kind in the country. “Around 30 artists have worked for four months to install this statue. It will be here till January 26 and later shifted to Kerala,” said Sabharwal.

Artists led by Vinod Kumar Sabharwal completed the work despite shortage of manpower (artists) due to floods in Chennai.

The 50-feet high and 32-feet wide statue is set to be an added attraction at the Fun World known as activity and amusement park for youth and children. “There will be no extra fee for visitors. They can click selfies near the statue which has a circle area of 26 feet. We have used 18 tonnes of steel for this statue,” Sabharwal said.

“It is like the moment the image of Taj Mahal is displayed, everyone knows where it is. Similarly, the statue of Christ the Redeemer is associated with Brazil. We have installed Taj Mahal at an exhibition in Hassan for two months. After shifting the statue of Christ the Redeemer to Kerala, we plan to install one more statue but the concept of the statue it yet to be decided,” he said.

Cakes will be distributed free of cost from December 15 to January 7, 2016 between 11 am to 7 pm at this park.
